A motorcycle accident in Rome, Italy during the summer of 2002 nearly killed Jansen and long-term hospitalisation followed (he spent six days in a coma). In the seasons after the accident he struggled to regain his place in the Blackburn side which led to him being loaned to Coventry City  in 2003, where he scored 2 goals in 9 appearances. He made another attempt to force his way into the Blackburn team at the start of the 2004/05 season, scoring 2 goals in 8 appearances. However, it was felt that he had still not recovered mentally from the accident and was struggling to cope with the pressures of Premier League football. As a result, Blackburn decided it best for him take another break from football and sent him to visit a sports psychiatrist in America.

Heath on the spot to seal the points

A 17th minute penalty from leading scorer Gareth Heath proved the difference between the sides in an entertaining game. Leiston lined up in the strong autumnal sun without the suspended Danny Cunningham and Danny Smy but Neil Calver returned at the heart of midfield. Leiston began attacking the Fairground End and were soon in their stride. Pope had to be alert in the fourth minute as Heath released Bethell but the Hall keeper quickly blocked. P Brothers and Boardley then combined down the left with P Brothers crossing for Heath who miss-kicked under pressure from Werthman inside the box. Leiston were now playing some slick football and had the visitors stretched in the opening quarter or so. The impish Heath was only inches from embarrassing Pope with a superb 35 yard lob so it was no surprise when Leiston took a 17th minute lead. Heath's fine searching pass released P Brothers on the left hand side of the box and after rounding Pope the visiting keeper brought him down for a stone wall penalty. With defenders covering Referee Dale was right to issue a yellow card. Heath hammered home his penalty confidently to Pope's left for his seventeenth goal of the season. Two minutes later Bethell cleverly released Heath but his early strike was well saved by Pope low to his right. The visitors first threatening foray came on 27 minutes with Saker producing a fine tackle to deny the lively Sands inside the box. This then brought a period of possession for the visitors who showed great coomposure with the ball and moved it around well. But it was the home side who looked the more offensive and Pope denied Boardley at his near post before a superb four man move ended with an audacious bicycle kick by D Head that wasn't far wide. The second period continued in a similar vein with Leiston wasteful in the final third and Hall continuing to get closer to the visitors goal. Heath created space well on the right hand side of the box but his shot across the face of goal was just wide then, after rounding Pope, he set up M Brothers but he blazed over. With just one goal just seperating the sides the supporters were becoming frustrated and two shots blazed over by M Brothers didn't help. Werthman then produced a fantastic diving headed clearance from under his own bar from M Brothers cross. The visitors were still a threat and Sands acrobatic effort from Cooper's cross wasn't far wide on 72 minutes. But the defence were looking very strong aided by the excellent Neil Calver just in front of them. As the clock ticked down Heath saw an effort saved by Pope after further good work from P Brothers before Saker cut inside Paterson to set up M Brothers who fired over. The last action of the game saw a timely tackle by Boardley on Wood as he shaped to shoot inside the box as the meanest defence in the league refused to be breached.

Leiston stretched their unbeaten League record to twelve games and its now four games since Jamie Stannard conceded a league goal and five games undefeated with Stuart Boardley at left back! But they were pushed all the way by a very game Mildenhall side with Gareth Heath's confident penalty the difference.

Leiston: Stannard, Saker, Boardley, D Head, Goldfinch, Calver, Harrop, Heath, Bethell, P Brothers, M Brothers. Subs not used: Hammond, S Head and Norfolk.

Mildenhall Town: Pope, Mould, Paterson, Murkin, Judge, Werthman, Cooper, Steed, Wood, Sands, Youngs (McCabe 71 mins). Subs not used: Avis, Peacock and Hayden.

Well done, Leiston. 

A dreadful day for Chorley today vs Harrogate.  Top vs bottom and when we went ahead after two minutes it looked as if another sixer was on the cards.  However, from the moment they restarted, Harrogate totally bossed the game and ended up worthy 2-1 winners.

No complaints, Harrogate thoroughly deserved the win, but with Chester currently on a winning streak we can't afford to be having an off day against teams at the bottom.

Back to winning ways for Chorley - 5-4 on penalties in the Lancashire Trophy versus Marine from the Premier Division, the second time inside two weeks that we have seen them off.  Didn't go to the match though.  Crosby (Merseyside) on a damp and cold November evening was not at all appealing.

NOTHING TO DO WITH LED ZEPPLIN, BUT I HAVE BEEN LEFT DAZED AND CONFUSED AS TO IF TONIGHTS MATCH WITH YARMOUTH WAS GOING AHEAD. I HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT THERE WAS A PITCH INSPECTION AT 6. AT 7 O`CLOCK I CHECKED THE WEBSITE AND THERE WAS NOTHING SUGGESTING THAT THE MATCH WAS OFF.AT THAT POINT A FRIEND PHONED TO SAY IT WAS OFF, ANOTHER FRIEND I PHONED SAID IT WAS ON. IN THE END IHAD TO PNONE THE LT FOR CONFIRMATION.
AS SUPPORTERS ARE TOLD TO CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR MATCH INFORMATION, I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE IT APPARENTLY TOOK THE CLUB OVER AN HOUR TO GET THE NEWS OF THE POSTPONEMENT ON THE WEB PAGE WHEN IT COULD/SHOULD BE VIRTUALLY INSTANTANEOUS.
POOR COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CLUB AND THE ORDINARY SUPPORTERS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR A LONG WHILE,AND URGENTLY NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT TO A STANDARD THAT MATCHES THE AMBITIONS OF THE CLUB.
POORLY INFORMED SUPPORTERS CAN QUICKLY LOOSE INTEREST.
