Linux Mint
i found this one a couple months back been running it and so far it has the safety of linux and more ease of use for new Linux users

I had run Ubuntu and seemed to have bugs and problems with the newer releases with flash video and streaming online movies
So when I saw this one I tried it

It seems very stable and to me easier to operate than Ubuntu

The video codecs come in a bundle and will play about any DVD or streaming movie
plus it is easier to using the control center to tweak it to a newbies likes

Linux Mint

yeah, Linux Mint is quite nice - I always forget about it though. Based on Debian (like Ubuntu) but with a bunch of additional stuff on top it would make a good introductionary linux OS (I actually thought it was based on Ubuntu but doesn't look like I'm right). Still I always wonder how their development cycle fits in with the base distribution - I only use Ubuntu cause I'm too lazy for Debian.

So are you running it all the time?

It is actually based on Ubuntu sam

It just has a few more tweaks and stabilizing

The do have a Debian based  called Linux Mint Debian which is a rolling release
based on Debian

the releases usually happen about a month after Ubuntu depending on how long it takes to do the changes for mint

Its very much like Ubuntu in ease of use

It is my main OS now I truthfully wouldnt use any other

might have to fire it up in a VM to give it a go.

and ah, I must have gotten confused over the whole debian/ubuntu thing when I took a quick glance at the website... of course Ubuntu is based on Debian anyway.
