Sound and Shutdown Problem.

Ok I have another problem I wonder if you kind peeps can help me with please, I thought I had posted this but I think I said that I would try and sort it out. LOL  I can't.


Right ......

I have an Acer M3802
Running windows 7 - with An ATI graphics card erm.... what else do you need to know.... not sure.

So the problem is

SOMETIMES = when I play some games, or listen to music or play videos - after a while - I get a buzzing and a jolting - starts  off just now and then until it gets worse and worse and then restarts pc - sometimes I get an error code but it doesn't seem to relate. 

Restart the pc and it can be fine for ages (days or weeks) - or just go again. 

Randomly - nothing particular sets it off.

I've tried - updating the drivers, back dating the drivers - completely deleting the drivers and reinstalling - unplugging all usb's - turning everything off in start up - restoring - scanning.

Its so random I've lived with it doing this for 6 months and its not got any worse or better. (I just restart)

Windows says its search for a fix but never comes back with anything lol

I'm sure I read some where that its something to do with windows 7 ..... so I tried some fixes there but so long ago I forget what.

Any idea's guys?

Have you opened the case, checked all cards and connectors are fully seated, that there's no dust build up and that the fans are all running freely, Michelle?

badly seated speakers, vibrating against something maybe.

Next time it happens, see if the same sounds comes out of headphones

hmmm I've not opened it up Rik as it was under guarantee when it started happening - I thought it was something *cough* I'd downloaded.

I may have to do that.

No, it does come through the headphones too - that was the first time it had happened again for me to check  it.

If I don't play music now it might be ok - but if I keep playing the pc will definitely eventually - slow, the mouse slows, freezes then -  shutdown, or bluescreen

Windows 7 - 0x000000124 BSOD   seems to point to a  hardware problem.

 I've no replaced or changed anything but I'm guessing it could be a compatibility problem - or memory?

I'd be guessing too, so I'll leave it to someone who might know.  ;)

You might like to have a poke through this, which I just happened to find, Michelle.  It's a bit over my head, but you might find something useful in the way of diagnostics.  Obviously, I haven't tried any of these, so cannot verify any of the information or links:

So the stop 0x124 error is essentially windows passing a hardware error report. Once this fault condition is past it can't do anything and ends up in a crash.

You should try (not necessarily in this order) :

- Check that no hardware components are overclocked; this is a common point where things fail.
- Check if the machine is overheating and cooled correctly
- Update all hardware-related drivers; you can probably use windows todo this, but given the sound is choppy (actually that just suggests the processor is working too hard) I'd ensure that you have the right one for this
- Maybe update the motherboard BIOS use the manufacturer's instructions (or maybe at this is something given in warranty the place you got it from can help with)
- test out the components, run MDSCHED (i.e. test the ram, maybe memtest86 is better), CHKDSK /R (see if bad disk sectors)
- If all else fails a reinistall and if this still fails worth checking out all the bits, i.e. check RAM is seated correctly but opening up the computer will invalidate the warranty so at this point contact the shop.

I didn't say thanks for this, I tried some of your suggestions and it stopped doing it for ages, then whoosh it did it again, but I did nothing else, and its been fine for ages again. Very very odd. I haven't checked the seating, as I didnt want to open it up, but I think thats what needs doing now.
