Can Firebird gain against MySQL?

MySQL is now really an Oracle product, price included. Which is a big chance for all other "really free" database servers, like Firebird and PostgreSQL.

The linked to blog in that article looks rather worrying, from our prospective.

oh yes, ever since oracle took over Sun its all been very worrying, but we are small fish in a massive lake of people using mysql from our non-commerical operation to be business, I can't see them doing anything too stupid. If they did well we would cope. I'm sure it wouldn't take too much effort to change the backend database. Making the database software, however, is a different issue entirely. Still we have 4 years.
