GIMP is perhaps one of the most well known imaging apps available in Libre software. Its virtues are endorsed by many in the Libre software community. In a practical sense however, within North American art and design circles, its uptake is effectively zero.

I have to agree with the arguments, Sam. I always post-process in 16 bits until print time.

I posted this link over at Netters, though I think many of the same points apply to the whole "Gimp v Photoshop" debate. Rather than go in to the argument with all guns blazing, I recommend people read this first and take away the philosophy, if not the letter.

For what I do GIMP is fine. Actually for most of what I do, I wouldn't want todo it any way except with the comandline tools of image magick. Why fire up a GUI when I can just do:
