Canon Ixus Anyone?
« on: September 09, 2003, 17:55 »
Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade my Sony Cybershot U10 for a Canon Ixus digital camera.

The main reason for upgrade is that my Sony is only 1.3 megapixel resolution whilst a Canon is 2 or 3 and the Canon also includes a zoom which the Sony doesn't.

Anyway just wondering if anyone has any experiences on the Canon ixus range, I'm looking at either the Ixus V2 or Ixus II

The cheapest Ixus V2 I can find is £220 and Ixus II is £260.

I also looked at the new Sony U30, but it still doesn't have a zoom  ::) though as I'm looking for an ultra compact camera it is an ideal size - same as my existing Sony U10

Any comments either on the above cameras or recommendations in the £200-£275 price range for a compact camera with at least 2megapixel and a zoom, please  ;D.

:thanks:  ;)

Following the purchase of a 'toy' one for £30 last year, I have just purchased a 'proper' digital camera myself.  There are quite a few to look at here, DJ.  I didn't want to spend a fortune, so I went for the Kodak model here, and although I haven't used it a great deal yet, the pictures I have taken have been very good, in my opinion.

Ok I've finished looking around and my top 3 wish list is as follows:

1,Canon Ixus II
2,Casio EX-Z3
3,Pentax Optio S

Now just to get a bargain deal on one of the above and I'll be happy ;D. I've seen a lot on eBay but they're all from the US or Hong Kong.

Off to do a bit of window shopping!

The November :o edition of PC-Pro has just landed on my doormat.

It has a review of the Canon Digital Ixus 400. It is a bit pricey at £355 from Simply

Quote
While not a diminutive as the Exilim or DSC-U20, the Canon's performance is exceptional for a camera so small. It wil suit undemanding point-and-shooters and control freaks alike, and its superb quality, looks and build make it one of the most desirable digital compacts available.

Weight: 222g
4-megapixel CCD
3x Optical zoom
32MB Compactflash card
Lithium Ion rechargeable battery

Should've really update this post  ;)

I went and bought a Kyocera S5 camera. 5 megapixels 3.2 optical zoom etc etc.

It was £260 (+£10 p+P) from HERE

I thought it was a bargain so bought it! It's a great little camera and the pics are amazing quality.

Thanks for the help anyway guys and gals.

That looks good DJ :) The only thing that would put me off that camera is the lack of a compact flash slot. I have a 128MB CF and 384MB Type II Microdrive which I wouldn't want to lose the use of 8)

Good point.

I bought a 256mb secure digital and that should keep me going for a while.

Actually, Sean, if that price is all inclusive, it's not bad.  In fact it must be good - it's even beaten Ebuyer.  More reviews there as well.   :)
