Microsoft has sneakily switched on automatic updates without my knowledge and for the last four nights has tried unsuccessfully to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) on my XP pro computer which is otherwise up to date.  Does anyone know of any issues regarding this service pack and what purpose does it serve anyway?  Updates are now turnred off!

Do you actually have the SQL server installed, Clive? It seems very unlikely to me.

Yes, I have it.  But do I need it?  :dunno:

I don't, so something installed it on your machine for a reason, Clive. Do you have Access?

Yes, I do as it's part of Office 2000 which is necessary to spell check Outlook Express..

There's your answer. :) Access shouldn't be necessary for spell checking though.

No but the suite isn't separated into individual programs.  When I powered down just after lunch it made a 6th unsuccessful attempt to install.  Is there any way I can say I don't want the patch?

I'll see what happens when I power down tonight.
