Topic: Surge protectors

Does anyone usd a surge protector and if so which one?  I'm beginning to think that buying one may be a good idea becaise we often get lightning in my area.  The sophisticated ones with battery backup can cost up to £110 but there are much cheaper ones available.

Well, I use a much cheaper one than that, Clive, £20 from Argos, I think!  It has a light on it to show the Surge Protection is supposed to be working, but how does one know for sure, until something happens to test it?

I have heard that the cheaper ones are only good for one 'hit', then you have to replace them, as they are not so effective.  Of course, it doesn't tell you that on the box!

Ner Ner   mines got a green and a red light on it, and it was £9.98 at B$Q [last weekend] it takes six 13amp plugs and gives £1000 insurance pay back if it fails to protect your equipment.

I'm stuck with having to use two seperate APC Smart-UPS 700 UPS units.  It's a bit of a long story, but they set me back all of £60 on eBay.

I've since treated each of them to a new pair of cells and all I'm worried about now, is a lightning strike on my 'phone line while I'm out.

Oh...  and one unit's black, while the other is beige, but luckily we're not predjudiced in that regard.

I've bought a Belkin Surgemaster 8 way protector with ADSL protection and tv and video protection too.  Just under £50 but worth it for peace of mind.
