Upgrade Suggestions
« on: May 17, 2003, 15:20 »
Hi all, I'm gonna upgrade my PC in August and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. You'll have to remember that I don't wanta PC that can run Doom III and 300 FPS and I'm on a veeerrrrryy tight budget.

Current System Specs:
2000XP Running at about 56 Celcius
Rubbish Matsonic Motherboard that can't have AGP cards...
256Mb DDR
wrecked case
TNT2 M64 32Mb SD RAM
Don't think the rest is too important  :)

What I'm Thinking Of Changing It To:
2000XP Running a lot cooler
quiter fan
Asrock K7VT2 Motherboard £45
512Mb PC2100 266Mhz DRR - £40~£30 (From Shop In The Yellow Paper)
Brand Spanking New Mercury Case - £30
16x Liteon DVD Drive - £30
ATi Radeon 7500 64Mb DDR - £40
and eventually a soundblaster live 5.1 card so I can get some BASS!

I currently have the CPU and GFX card and the Motherboard is in the mail  ;D

Any suggestions on any changes or a nice quiet CPU fan which cools better than my current one?

Cheers  ;D

For the slight increase,if any,in performance wouldnt you be better waiting another 6 months and getting a faster CPU which will be presumably a lot cheaper than now and althought the DDR seems ridiculously cheap now ( I bought 512 from a local place for £52 on May 1st only to see it dropped to £40 on May 2nd  >:( )may drop even more  ???

Good idea about the CPU, could flog it of to my brother  :D I'm getting the DVD drive next so I'll probably end up getting payed to take the DDR by the time I get it hehe.

By the way nice sig, very original  ;D

I was lucky with my recent upgrade as I got a "Bare bones" pc for £75 with a 1.3 amd athlon in it so I could gut my 450 for the hard drive,Cd,Cd writer and floppy and had to buy some DDR for it.
Unfortunately (or fortunately),it developed a fault on the motherboard ,I think, and I took it back and exchanged it for another one.
I then noticed that they had some XP 2100+ amds in a better(bigger)case with onboard LAN for only another tenner so I got one of those  ;)

Thanks for the comment about my sig, glad to see that some people on here have some musical taste  :-*

So there Simon and Adept  :P
