Hi Folks

Dont know if this is a problem with anyone else but every now and again while im yakking on MSN MSG a person/persons that are not on my list pops up and asks if I want to see there web site or worse still advertise there Porn sites.

I have disabled Msg in services but I dont know what else to do.

I have fire walls enabled are they coming in on another port somwhere thats not stealthed.

Big_Boss and I have both fixed this problem on 2000 and XP. We disabled messenger in the services tab like you said but we have had no more problems after that

If it's any consolation Hook, I used to get that all the time with Yahoo Messenger even though I blocked everything that could be blocked.  Yahoo eventually stopped the bots breaking through when they upgraded their software.  It may be a good idea to make sure you are using the latest version of MSN Messenger as Yahoo upgrades their version about every 3 weeks or so and I'm sure MSN probably does the same.

Another way to do it is to go to Tools > Privacy, and move "All Other Users" to the "Blocked" pane.  That way, you only show online to those already in your list of contacts.

Isn't this something to do with port 135 being open?

Go to grc.com and run SheildsUp! This will tell you which ports are open on your PC.

My ports are well and truly stealthed, and I get this on Trillian too.  There's nothing worse than sitting waiting for somebody intelligent to chat to, then all you get is silly old tarts popping up!  

But enough about Sandra and Serenity, those porn things are a nuiscence as well!

Hook, I think everyone is at risk of getting them, especially using hotmail as your messenger address.  It's like spam.  You don't give out your hotmail address, but they still find it!  I think it's just a question of bad luck that they happen to have found yours (and mine).  The only real solution is to change your messenger address, and use another e-mail address to sign on with.
