Before I go ahead and break my PC, what will happen if I go into my BIOS and select the High Performance setting? Is there a way back? Can I just go back to the default settings if this goes pear shaped?
Thanks for the link Bat, but it's a bit over my head!! :'( :-[

Dont worry Simon, the worst you can do is make your PC unstable. Popping back into the BIOS and selecting another setting will restore your PC back to health

If you are going to tinker, find out what the settings are for, what they do and make a note of the original settings.
Then wherever possible, only change one setting at a time. If it becomes unstable then its much easier to trace which setting caused the trouble

Well, all I was going to do was go into Soft Menu III Set Up and hit F7 for 'Optimum Settings', but I chickened out in the end! I thought as things seem to be running OK, and I don't know any different, I'll leave it be! :- :-[

be a devil Simon, hit that performance button, I've be running on the High performance Bios setting since last time we discussed it. Well over a week now and not so much as a hiccup, stable as a rock it is. Down to it being built with quality components, by a bespoke custom PC builder I suppose
Have you no faith in your work

Hiya Catch,
What difference have you noticed since you went HP? I think my system runs sweetly as it is, so before I take the leap, I'd like to know what improvements to expect by hitting the High Performance setting.

Well to be honest Simon,
I have not run any bench test's as I have not got any bench test programes on my PC at the moment. And bench testing is the only way to compare default / HP setups when you think about it. But I assume it is faster and as it is stable I shall leave it on the HP setting.
Just try it will you, what are you a man or a mouse
worst that can happen is it crashes. And like Adept say's you can always reset it back to default performance setting. I don't know how you can resist trying it, or maybe you using your PC to control that new Ariane rocket

Well, I've done it, and I'm still here. It hasn't actually made any difference as far as I can tell. 8)

But isn't it satisfying to know that your PC is 0.001% faster Simon

i'm with you simon, if it works be thankful and leave well alone. yes we'd still be in caves if johnny caveman had thought like that, but it'd be a nice comfy familiar cave.
