There is a 2K RAM version available for £130 but delivery is quoted as up to two months.  This one has Dual SD card slots but only has 1K RAM.  The reviews of these phones are stunning but if I want one soon, I will have to make do with the 1K version.  It will be my very first Smart phone.  Why would I be unhappy with 1K?   :dunno:

I think the 2Gb would probably just be a bit faster, especially when several apps are open at once, but as you have nothing to compare it with, you won't know the difference.  If you did want the 2Gb one, it appears to be available from Argos:

I have to admit, those look super for the price.  I'm wondering what the catch is?

The 2Gb ones are suddenly in stock at £130 again.  There is no catch apparently.  ComputerActive magazine has been recommending them for a couple of years and say they are tremendous value.  I think I might bite the bullet.   :D

Done.  Bought a case, screen cover and stylus pen for an extra £3.  Next I have to get a Tesco Sim card for it and get my existing number transferred to it.

Don't forget to turn off data roaming when you go away, or you could be hit with a surprising bill!  I'm sure the luxury cruise liner will have WiFi.   8-)

When at sea we will pick up the ship's mobile signal and that's expensive enough.  But once in port there is usually a local service the phone gets attached to.  I don't understand roaming - if I turn it off will I not pick up a signal?

I think you can get some sort of plan from your service provider for using data abroad, so that it doesn't cost the earth. It might be worth investigating that with Tesco's before you go, otherwise all you need to do is simply turn off mobile data on the phone.  You will still then be able to receive calls and texts, but you will only be able to get online access via Wi-Fi.

Ah right!  So it only affects data.  Thanks for that Simon.

Tesco had a local rates roaming policy in certain EU countries over summer 2016 (just in time for us going to Spain ). Not sure what is happening the first half of this year with roaming charges, guess it depends on your provider.
There's an EU wide agreement that comes into force in June I think, allowing all EU citizens local rate charges when abroad.............er well we might get the benefit for a bit if Theresa doesn't mess that up as well, anyway it's so unbritish having cheap calls  :o:  :bawl:

;D  Absolutely Dave!  I'm with Tesco mobile too and have always found them to have very good coverage.  I have to say I'm a bit nervous about it all since I've not previously had a smartphone.  I may decide not to set it up until after we get back just in case anything goes wrong.  The old phone has always been OK when we are abroad and I would hate to be out of contact with the family.

This is the one I've ordered and it's already gone up a tenner since last night.  Thank goodness for Camel Camel.   :thumb:

You can sometimes buy a roaming package for a week or month, depending on the country you're visiting and the provider. I'm not aware of Tesco offering anything at the moment but i must admit i haven't looked too closely.
Failing getting any cheap data if you use whatsapp for messages you can utilise any free wifi available to send messages/pictures etc free of charge to other whatsapp equipped recipients. Watch out for sending "normal" text messages even by wifi abroad, the cost can be crazy ! You can also use facetime (or android equivalent) to make video or audio only phone calls, providing you have wifi (or cheap data).
Apologies if i'm teaching granny how to suck eggs here, but i only sussed all this out last year  :P

I'm thinking of buying one myself, just because it looks too good to resist at the price!  I'm wondering why anybody would pay three times as much for an iPhone, or any other top end smartphone.  Like I did.
