One day I was driving down a country road. I was startled when a three-leg chicken ran across the road in front of me and disappeared up a farm lane.
I could hardly believe my eyes so I turned up that lane and came to a farmhouse.
When I stopped my car an old farmer came out of the house and approached my car window.
“Can I hep’ you?”
“Yeah, I swear I just saw a chicken with three-legs run up this lane.”
“That’d be one of mine alright. I raise ‘em.”
“Why would anyone raise a chicken with three legs?”
“Well when you have company, if’n there’s more ‘n one at the table that wants a leg, my chickens provide that little bonus nicely, that’s why.”
“Well, that makes perfect sense. Do they taste any different than a regular chicken leg?”
“He stared off in the sky thinking about my question as he scratched his chin and said finally,
“Don’t rightly know?”
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
“Can’t never catch ‘em, they be fast little b*****ds.”
