Minimise Outlook
« on: July 05, 2003, 10:52 »
Do you use Outlook?  If, like me, you leave it running in the background, but find it a little annoying that it doesn't minimise to the system tray, instead of cluttering up your task bar, here's a simple registry hack that will do the trick.

I have only tried this with Outlook XP, but I think it will work with other versions (not Outlook Express). If you are missing the registry key below, this tip will not work for you.

Always remember to backup your registry before you mess with it.

   1. Open Regedit.
   2. Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences
   3. Add a new DWORD value and name it MinToTray
   4. Set it equal to 1.
   5. Restart Outlook, it should now minimize to the tray.

For those who have loads of open programs constantly cluttering up the taskbar, there is a nifty little program called Traymin which is available on the at http://www2.skwire.net/~apps/traymin.zip

Once installed, if you want to minimise an application to  the System Tray, you simply right-click the minimise button.

Well, it was only Outlook that was irritating me, but that could be handy as well, Dave.
