Here's a success story for ya. Once apon a time a teenager had a controller-less intel modem (not Hardware or software, kinda inbetween). He used all kinds of modem tweak utilities which made a mess of his harddrive and startup. On this particular day the teenager had found a website about INIT strings. He looked closer and with much time he selected the one he believed was right for himself as the description read "This be thy magic Init String for thy Intel 536EP Controller-less Modem." After much hardships looking to find where this INIT string fitted in with Windows XP he found what he was looking for.
The init string gave the teenager some performance boosts but the avail it did not help with Monkey-Strike (A MOD for Half Life where you fight as monkeys) so he searched for a file that he had changed in the registry out of bordom earlier which also gave him some performance boost in google. He came across a forum of where the writer had felt sorry for the 40 Million + 56k Modem users and had written a piece on registry tweaks. Since this teenager did not give a damn what happened to his registry, he used the guide to change the registry and after a restart he connected to the internet.
The bubble on the bottom right indicated that his connection had increased from 33,333 to 36,000. This made him happy but it was nothing to make a feast for. So he connected to a Monkey-Strike server. No longer had his ping gone from 300 to 7000 every second and the choke had almost vanished. He played a smooth game at 170 - 220 and he lived happily ever after up to the time of this story was written.
And he said in his bold voice (It had broke a long time ago)
"All 56kers, Behold the Holy Grail Of Thy Modem Community And Visit This Website Which I Grant Thy Link To Thee!"And the site he granted was this
