I downloaded the patch as my system kept crashing.

But once I installed it, I couldn't download emails from my ISP's server so I uninstalled the patch and everythings ok again.

Weird  :-\

The patch only applies to the specific symptoms, DJ, which it does say.  By 'system crash', do you mean your whole PC, or just Explorer?  This relates to a problem when accessing folders, etc, on your hard drive.  The screen freezes, then the desktop goes blank for a second or two, before (in XP) restarting, minus half your system tray icons (by the clock), but you are able to continue working.  I installed the patch, and the problem is now fixed.

My desktop freezes every so often along with the system tray and start button.

Saying that it hasn't happened today so cross my fingers and hope for the best!
