i am on freeserve broadband which i am getting problems with
and i am thinking of changing to another broadband supplier
but i been told by people that some suppliers put a box by your computer to plug the modem into and that is no good for me as i got a laptop i need to transfer from one to the other one and of course i can't move the box around please can someone:help:me out

Do you have an internal broadband modem in your laptop? How are you connected at the moment?

I'm Sure Sandra will delight in explaining the merits of a Broadband Router, GSS, and why every home should have one!    It basically means you can connect two PCs (or a PC and a laptop) to the same phone line, as far as I understand it.  That's as far as my knowledge goes, as I only have one PC, so I don't need a router.

As for Freeserve, are you not tied into a minimum term contract with them?  Changing your broadband supplier is not as simple as changing a 56K Dial Up ISP, as there are usually set up costs to consider.  Would it not be better to sort out the problems you are having with Freeserve, rather than changing?

Sorry, GSS, I'm getting confused.    You said you're on Freeserve Broadband, but now you've just said you have a " [speed touch usb modem] 56k", so which is it?  I'm no expert, but as far as I know, you can't get Broadband with a 56k Modem!

Well, if you can get out of the Freeserve contract, which is what I think you said you're looking at, you could consider Pipex Xtreme, which is what Sandra, Bat69 and myself use.  There are no set up fees, if you already have your own equipment and it's £23.44 per month.
