Topic: sometimes shutdown doesn't

Just wondered, if you knew why is it that sometimes, and only sometimes does my puter not want to shutdown properly and hangs at the last bit, just my desktop picture on screen, and I have to switch it off at the mains!  Is it because I close all my windows too quickly before shutdown you think ?

It will tell you everything you need to know. You may decide that having the occasional shutdown problem is preferable though

If I get a hanging shutdown, rather than turn the power off at the mains, I just hold the 'On' switch on the front of the case in for about 5 seconds, and it shuts down.  I'm not sure if all PC will do that, but I would think it's slightly safer that switching off at the mains.

Oh I have loads of stuff unchecked in there - I have selective start up on all the time I don't think I'll bother with that then
