This morning Nildram staff will be cracking open a bottle of champagne for breakfast for it's yet again that time of the month when ADSLguide speed test results are published.

1 Nildram
2 Eclipse Internet
3 Zen Internet
4 PlusNet
5 Demon
6 PIPEX Internet Limited
7 BT Openworld (Yahoo! Broadband)
8 BT Broadband
9 Freedom 2 Surf PLC
10 Clara.net

More info and lot of stats at ADSLGuide

I'm due to be connected to Nildram ADSL in 13 days time. I'll let you know whether they are as good as they appear ;)

Oh I know someone who uses Zen and he reckons it's fantastic.  Apparently it's only a small ISP.  I must admit I hadn't even heard of it before.

I see NDOhttp://www.ndodsl.com/home500.htm are doing a free installation offer at £22.99 per month.

They are rated as best [customer rated, that is] Dial up and Broadband ISP http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/top10.php

If they had had enough [min 300] ADSL test's done on the AdSL test site, they would have come in, in third place [sez their man]

Right they are obviously a small ISP, anybody here on em ? or heard good or bad reports on em ?

Apart from brief problems with reverse DNS (my host name didn't resolve to my IP address) and associated problems with not being able to access BBCi content I've had no trouble at all.

My connection is fast and stable so far (touches wood).

Nildram's speedtest gives a bandwidth of 479.20kbps or 59.9 KB/sec. and ADSLGuide's speedtest gives slightly lower results of 450 Kbps (56.3 KB/sec)

Overall I'm mighty pleased to be a member of the broadband gloaters club ;D ;D

It may be worth noting that NDO's special offer of 'free installation' does not include any hardware, i.e. modem and line splitters, although these are available on their site to purchase separately.

I have only read good reviews about them, but have yet to talk to anyone with first hand experience.

Cheers Simon,

Like I have said on another occasion, I want an ISP that proves a backup dial in connection, which is inclusive of the deal. Both NDO and PlusNet include that provision, Plusnet is £21.99 per month, but there is the £58.75 [BT] connection fee to pay. NDO is £22.99 but waive the £58.75 fee if you use the service for 12 months, I can get the modem and splitters for £35.00 elsewhere.

I dare say I would have opted for the Pipex offer IF a backup dial-up was part of their deal. So it looks like either PlusNet or NDO, but NDO being a small company just worries me abit. I was with AlpaPhe dialup, a good company with a great service yet it folded   >:(

Yes, I was another AlphaPhe refugee.  In fact that was when I gave up with dial up ISPs and went to Pipex.

It might be worth checking out, Tony, but I thought I saw / heard / read somewhere that not every BB ISP allows you to use your own modem, i.e. those bought considerably cheaper elsewhere.

Simon,

NDO reckon you can migrate from another ADSL ISP to them, and they will pick up the BT connection fee. And as you would already have the connection kit, it cannot be a prob with them. And PlusNet will supply kit or let you source your own kit.

I'll have to make my mind up soon as they enable my exchange on the 19th Nov.........Broadband gloaters club mmmmmmmmmmmmmm nice, I cannot wait   ;D

Plusnet ISP Welcomes PC Pro Award

By: MarkJ @ 1:38 PM - Comments () - SendNews HERE / PrintNews HERE
UK ISP Plusnet has welcomed being given the PC Pro magazine 'Reliability and Service' award (2003) for its broadband offerings:

PlusNet Voted Number One for Broadband

PlusNet has been declared the NUMBER ONE ISP for Broadband by the readership of PC Pro, one of the UK's most respected computing magazines. In last Thursday night's celebrated awards ceremony, PlusNet were voted the outright winner in the 'ISP Broadband' category for the 'PC Pro Reliability and Service Awards 2003'.

At the glitzy presentation, held at the Dorchester Hotel, London, PlusNet beat other nominated national ISPs; AOL, BT Openworld, NTL, Pipex and Telewest Blueyonder to scoop this prestigious award.

The Reliability and Service Awards 2003 are based upon a comprehensive survey completed by the PC Pro readership, in which feedback was polled relating to quality, value for money and overall reliability of broadband service.

"This is a tremendous accolade to be presented with," stated Marco Potesta, Commercial Director at PlusNet. "We're extremely pleased to have been voted Number One Broadband ISP by the readership of one of the UK's most highly respected IT magazines. We'd like to extend our sincere thanks, both to our customers and PC Pro magazine readers. This is testament to PlusNet's superior operating model that delivers an enhanced customer experience at a lower cost structure than any of our competitors, the success of which is entirely due to all our employees. I would like to thank them for all their continued efforts."

PlusNet join the illustrious ranks of other PC Pro 2003 award winners, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, NEC-Mitsubishi amongst others.

Im starting to look for a new ISP now, the NTL server has started to frequently collapse and sit in a state of shock for 2 weeks so i cant access my emails via hotmail, which is annoying at best..
