Is there anyway way to disable idle dissconnect on 56k AOL?

I dont think that there is Dominic but there are programs that will redial if the connection is dropped, although I cant think of the name of any at the moment I am sure that someone else on 56K will know of one

Personally im not on 56k, this a question for someone i know, redail progams may work, he's not to bothered about the actual d/c, it's when it happens whilst in a online game, so the redail program would be of no use :/ as you mentioned tho, hopefully someone will know

It shouldnt cut off if hes on line gaming  
Is it definitely "Idle cut off" and not just the connection limit imposed by his ISP ?

Yup it is the idle d/c.. i had same problem when i was on 56k till i learned of why it was doing it (idle d/c) but i was on freeserve so i could change the settings, and as far as im aware there is no connection limit.

Mine connects through outlook express which when I get cut off automatically redials - often catches me out when I think ... oh well I'll make the tea seeing as I'm cut off and I come back and there I am connected again

Have you tried going into Internet Options/Connections/Advanced and unchecking the "disconnect if idle" box?

If you open your Network Connections in your Control Panel, right click your connection, then choose Properties > Options, you should get the box below.  Make sure the idle time is set to 'Never', and that may help, Dominic.

You can't access the propities of the AOL connection.  >

Something you could try doing Dominic, is to log into a busy aol chatroom.  That will keep your connection very active so you won't get an idle disconnect.  I used to do that when I was on 56K and had difficulty in re-dialing after disconnection.  Obviously you don't need to participate in the chatroom at all.
