BT Blackmail
« on: October 17, 2003, 15:59 »
Right,

When I made enquiries to BT about the costs of reverting my ISDN line back to a normal line prior to ADSL activation. I was told it would be £50, however if I signed up with BT Broadband this charge would be waived.

Now if BT is offering to forgo fee's so as to enable BT Broadband an unfair advantage over the other Broadband providers, is this not a breach of competition laws. Plus it could be construed as blackmailing their ISDN customers, by penalizing them if the go with another Broadband provider.

Who should I contact to make a complaint against them?

I totally agree and had the same response from BT early this year.. it was a case of pay the remainder of my ISDN contract (which was about £340) and then pay the £50 installation and £50 for the modem or recieve all of the above totally free if I signed up with BT Broadband (wholesale)...

There have been a few people discussing this on ISPR Tony.
I dont know which thread now but it was in general discussion I think so it may be an idea to have a look around in there if you get some spare time to see if anyone resolved the problem  :)

To be honest Tony i didnt.. i spoke to various so called BT Supervisors and realised I was wasting my time.. but I needed the connection for business reasons and therefore just couldnt take the risk of delaying the connection.. but if it helps the response from the Supervisors were totally uninterested and an a few occasions alittle abusive.
One of them actually put the phone down on me but my wife says that could have actually been my own fault as in a phone conversation I can't help saying exactly what i think whereas in a letter i am a tad more diplomatic ;)

I know what you mean Craig,

I once rang the Wife up at the call centre where she works. See, she keeps "tidying" my stuff, but when I ask her where it is, she forgets, and I can get a "tad" irrate. And one day, sure enough she threatend to put the phone down on me, they can pick some bad habits up at these call centres  ::)

Oh pet hate, it really winds me up when I have just got used to where everything is in the kitchen cuboards, and they shift it all about.   >:(

You mean when you leave stuff all over the kitchen work tops and we put it away which is what should have happened in the first place.

NB. A good reason to live alone ;)

That's one of my pet hates too.  If Mrs Clive is looking for something she takes everything out of the cupboard until she finds it.  Then leaves it all on the worksurface!  No prizes for guessing who has to put it all away.  It's tough being a husband.
