Knowing computers as I do, Windows makes a log of absolutely every single activity which takes place on your computer.  I'm sure that there just HAS to be a log recording that phone number buried somewhere amongst your files.  Over to the experts...

Thats what I thought clive, it must be somewhere ....... because it has rung it. There has to be a way of getting to it, but not through ntl.   I'm sure someone will find it, as no one I've read about wants to use the ntl dialer, I'm not so bothered about that, I just want to connect quicker than 10mins, cos sometimes I only pop on for 10mins  :o  (okay it might only take 5mins but it seems a hell of a long time)  ::)

Edit:- again!

Michelle does it show the number in your dial up but as all * ?
There are some programmes that wil find passwords from that type of thing but I dont know if they would uncover the number.
Maybe Adept, Dack or Lobo will know if they will  :)

Hmm.  Seems as if the NTL dialup number is more elusive than Saddam's WMDs.

Michelle, here's  another forum thread to watch:

Thanks other dave, I've been looking in there too.

Grrrr they really don't want you to know about it do they.  Odd!! I don't know why cos with the last one they told you how to make a new connection if you didn't want to use their dialer.

Well you could give this a go - not sure if it works though as I don't use dialup anymore.

Go into your control panel and select modems.

Select the modem and click properties.

Somewhere in there you will see a setting which says "Add to Log" - tick it on (the correct bit is different on each version of windows).

close down all the settings windows.

Connect to Ntl.

Browse the Internet for a bit.

Exit NTL.

Go back into the co trol panel and modems and have a look at the log (its one of the options). You will then see a line like ATDxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bit is the number you need to dial.

You will also probably want to switch logging off again while you are in here.

hey promised the earth! Then delivered mud.
Technically it did meet the spec.

Right - knowing that you run ME.

Its Control panel -> modems -> properties->connection -> advanced
Then click on the 'Add to log'

Later on its....
Control panel -> modems -> properties->connection -> advanced
"View Log"

The ATD bit of the above posting is the same.

Thanks Dack, I don't have "add to log" but I have "append to log" so I ticked that .... And its still the same it doesn't show the number only.

I wnder why they bother trying to hide such info :)

OK lets use another 'trick'.

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/portmon.shtml

Download and run this. Switch on the logging for whatever port your modem is using. Try and connect to the internet.Then post the log here.

I'll tell you now that it may interfere with your internet connection so you will probably want to remove it after doing the capture.
