Win ME - REGENV32.EXE
« on: October 25, 2003, 21:51 »
ME really is a complete bag of poo, isn't it!  My soon-to-be-ex missus has decided that she's going to be the new owner of my laptop, so I did a full clean reinstall of ME from the bootable install CD, which has a Ghost file containing ME and the drivers.

Not long after I'd downloaded the ton of updates required to make ME usable and then adding a number of security apps, I was hit with a BSOD right out of the blue.  On re-booting and going through the CheckDisk rigmarole, REGENV32.EXE was found to have corrupted.  The original file is around 72k, while the repaired file is 60k.

This is apparently a well-documented problem, but why doesn't Microsoft provide a downloadable replacement, for goodness sake?

Oh yes...  I did extract a copy from the CAB in windows/options, but found that corrupted, too!

Anyone got an original?  PM me.  8)

Give me a few minutes, Rodders, and I will see what I can do. My WinMe disc is not a complete copy of WinMe but HP's restore disc. I will search for that file and send it to you ASAP. :D

I've just checked my REGENV32.EXE and mine is only 60k but I've not had the problem you have had Rodders. What exactly is it for?

It seems to be a handler for Environment Variables, and writes to the registry whenever ME is shut down.  There's a lot of related stuff that can be found on Google when searching by the filename.

Lona:

I've just checked out the Zip you sent me, and found you've included the wrong file.  Could you have another crack at it, please?

Cheers Dave!  I was kind of hoping for the 72k version, though.  I don't suppose you could have a butchers in Cab 17(?) of your Win ME disc for the original?   ;)

Sorry Rodders if it was the wrong file but I sent you the file you asked for which was REGENV32.exe. Is it a different file that you need?
