Grrrr at NTL
« on: October 31, 2003, 13:38 »
Hi Guys

I'm back ..... NTL went down yesterday lunch time, and they tell me it wont be working again til maybe tonight, so I've now got AOL free trial, only I couldn't get on it because I had Zone alarm set too high (I think) Must remember to phone them to cancel the free trial before its over. I don't like it much anyway.

NTL seems to be a bit "sometimes" doesn't it?  I know Rodders has had problems with it in the past.

It was fine til they started all this "download new dialer" business, I don't know what they are playing at.

I can't get the freephone numbers to work on this AOL so I'm paying for this connection now  >:(  I should charge ntl for the time and trouble.

Is freeserve any good to have as a standby ?

Oi, hang on a minute, Shell!

I'm a bit worried by the sound of that "Download New Dialler" thing.  This a typical ploy of certain types of 'Malware' that plonks a PREMIUM RATE dialler, which replaces your normal one, onto your system.  If it's what I suspect it is, then it will screw your 'phone bill.

Just so's I can sleep more easily, please assure me that you're regularly scanning your system with Ad-aware v6, while also using Spywareblaster to keep all such nasties out of your delightful lumimous green hair, please?  Both of these security apps are FREE, by the way.

I think that the dialler is legitimate Rodders.  See:

Yes, for some reason, they don't seem to want you to know what the new dial up number is, so they gave out their own dialler.   ::)

Sorry about your troubles, Michelle. You can get Freeserve for 3 months for 9.99 per month, then £14.99 after.  Just cancel before the 3 months are up. I was with them for over a year and found them very reliable but slow. :)

Thanks rodders, I had found a way round the new dialer with a number than I found on a website, that dave found, but since these problems the last few days no numbers, not even using the dialer has worked, due to a so called problem!  I do use ad-aware and spyware blaster all the time, c/o advise from simon and sandra, I don't like it either, not sure what will happen when I can eventually get on line with them again I will let you know, but I think I need to get a standby just incase. I have found AOL to be quicker now but I only if I use the chargable line not the freephone numbers, I can't do that all the time.

Just an update,   NTL still not working  :slug: :tony:

Still using AOL but they are useless on dial up, although they told me to get BT to "increase the gain" on my line ?? which I'd never heard of so I've done that, see how that is tomorrow.

Sorry to hear you're still not mended yet, Shell, but it's good to see your luminous green hair again.   ;)

Aren't you glad you're not on AOL, permanently?
