My keyboard is muddled - help !
« on: December 16, 2002, 20:22 »
Please help - I let my younger cousin use my PC when he came to visit, and now all my keyboard keys are jumbled.  The letters are all OK, but some of the symbols have moved around.  So when I press the @ key I get a " and vice-versa.  This is the annoying one, because I write lots of emails.

Please be gentle, I'm a bit dim when it comes to PC's  :)

Hi Kayla, and welcome to the forum!

It sounds like your dear sweet cousin might have moved some of your keys around as a joke!  Why don't you just swap them back, and see how that goes?  You should be able to gently prise them off and pop them back on again.  The clue is when you said it happens vice-versa!   ;D ;D

Hi Kayla, welcome to our forum. I hope you'll be happy here!

If Simon's suggestion doesn't work out for you, you'll probably find that the locale for your keyboard has been changed to a different country.

You need to go to Control Panel and choose the "Regional and Language options" or "Keyboard Settings" depending on your operating system and choose the correct language setting for your country.

Let us know if you need further help.

Welcome Kayla,

Adepts post should solve the problem.  I had the same problem some time ago when I pressed the Shift + 2 i got the @ character and pressing shift + ' got the " (Wrong way round!).

So changing your keyboard language from US to UK should work.

In all fairness to Simon he usually gives good advice and I put the same interpretation on it myself.  But Adept is a professional and it shows.   ;D  Welcome to the forum Kayla.

Well, I was thinking from the prospective of what a 'younger cousin' might do if he thought it might be funny to mess about with 'Cousin Kayla's' keyboard, which is why I came up with what was, to me, the obvious thing to check!

Never mind - hope you get it sorted, Kayla!   ;D ;D
