Hard Drive Installing

hello

ive just bought a new hardrive and was wandering how do install it. I already have a hardrive in my pc which is my master i have set my new hardrive to slave and pluged it in etc. The problem im having is when i start up my pc i cant see my hardrive in my computer. ie c: is my master should i not be able to see my new hardrive as d: ?

When i start up i can see it reconizes it. I have win 2000.

Any help would be much appreciated

First thing to check is that the BIOS is set to AUTO for all drives on both IDE channels.
If that is set to that and it still isnt detecting it, is it too big for your BIOS to detect ?
What size of drive is it and what mobo have you got ?

Another thing to check is that you have the IDE cable connected correctly, and to the correct plug on the lead.  If you are connecting a slave device, it goes to the middle plug, yes?  And obviously the blue end goes in the socket on the motherboard.  

I only say this because I've made that mistake many times.   ::) ;D
