e machine restore

When i try to use my restore CD i get a message
single user version cannot do multiple loads
then
cannot open GHOSTERR.TXT
then
invalid dump file!
then the computer boots up as normal
can any one help please
 :'(

Hi Oaktree, and Welcome.   :)

One of our techies will be able to help you, I'm sure, but can you answer a few questions first, please?

1. Which Operating System are you using?

2. Why are you trying to Restore it, i.e., what is the initial problem?

3. Are you using any sort of drive backup application, i.e. Norton Ghost?

4. When the computer boots up as normal, does everything then function normally?

5. Have you up to date anti-virus protection?

Yeah, I was going to mention that.  You said you didn't have Norton Ghost, Oaktree, but 'GHOSTERR.TXT' is just that.  Did you install it, and subsequently uninstall it at some point?

Do you have an actual full XP installation CD, or just the recovery disc?

As Michelle said, all our techies must have been asleep during daylight, but now it's dark, they'll be fluttering about like moths round a lightbulb!   ;D ;D

It looked like English to me Michelle, but it does have a German and a Korean version available at the bottom if you would find that easier to read  ;)

Seriously though, it appears that whoever supplied your PC and the restore CD/s for it have used Norton Ghost to do it with oaktree.
The info that Michelle found has a bit on about the position in the dump file, while I am not sure its related it may be and that suggests this to me :

This indicates when the error occurred. It represents the position in the image file that Ghost was at while writing the image information to memory or to a disk or partition.

If a problem repeatedly occurs at the same point in the image file, the image file might be corrupt, or the source disk or partition might have disk errors.
 
Can you do a scandisk to check your hard drive for errors ?
If that shows ok then it sounds as if your restore CD may be damaged  :(
