Computer for £800?

My son is looking to buy a new computer and has a ceiling of £800. A TFT, DVDR and original XP Home CD are mandatory but all he really wants to use it for is the Internet. Can anyone make a recommendation?

I would be very surprised if he could get an original XP Home CD with any shop bought PC these days, as they all come pre-installed, with only a 'Recovery' CD. Has he thought of building his own, Clive?

He's not at all technically minded in that way Simon and wouldn't consider it.

Are they new or secondhand though? He uses e-bay a lot, but I would prefer him to have new.

He is now totally overloaded with information and doesn't know which route to take. One of the guys he works with bought one from e-bay and was delighted with it. His IT manager has offered to help him build his own. He is going to start the ball rolling by buying a 17" TFT monitor to use with his existing machine so if anyone knows of a good deal, maybe they can let me know.

I bought this one i have brand new from ebay..just the base unit mind (no keyboard, mouse or monitor) and it was by far the cheapest route at the time..and nothing has failed in the two years that i have had it...
I decided on the spec i wanted and just did a buy it now..no probs at all.. 8)
