damn cpu giving me another problem

on startup my system32 folder pops up. i'v run a virus and spyware scan, and checked the startup folder and found nothing. any suggestions

Is it every time your system starts? Have you installed or downloaded anything recently that may cause it?

Do a CTRl-ALT-DELETE and see if any suspicious applications or processes are running.

Hopefully someone more 'techie' will be available soon..

Just found this.

Problem

As soon as I sign into Windows XP, I immediatley get a screen that says System 32 and displays all of the folders. I exit out of it. I then get a message that states "Windows cannot open TFTP3688. I select cancel and at this point can proceed. Any way to remedy this?

This problem is fairly common in Windows NT 4.0, 2000, and XP. It's caused by an erroneous entry in one of the Registry keys that control programs launched at start-up. The two keys in question are HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.


Each named value within these two keys represents a program launched at start-up; each value's data holds the command to be executed. If the command is blank or contains just a character in double quotation marks, this missing data can cause Windows Explorer to display the System32 folder at start-up.

To fix the problem launch REGEDIT from the Start menu's Run dialog and navigate to one of the keys mentioned above. Select Export from the Registry menu and export the key to a REG file, so you can undo any deletions if necessary. Look carefully at each value in the right-hand pane. If the value's data is blank, contains only single quotation marks, or otherwise appears to be corrupted, delete the value. Repeat the process for the other key, then restart your system to verify that the problem Explorer window does not appear at start-up.

As in all registery changes, make sure you back up 1st,but I'm not sure if this is the same problem you have.
As DJ said....might have to wait until a grown up appears.

this only happens on system startup. i'm currently searching for the files listed on the site hookstar gave me, and after that i'm gonna check the registry. apart from teh folder popping up nothing else comes up

[edit] ok it's sorted. there was a reg entry in both of those keys that opened up system32. thanks
