Keyboard Problems....ARGH !! lol
« on: January 03, 2004, 03:17 »
Hi Guys. Like the Forum.

Bought myself a new pc just before new year and have been having a problem with the keyboard,
Whenever i play a game, certain keys will stick in the one direction until the key is pressed again. This can be quite annoying if your in the middle of saving the galaxy or fighting Nazis...lol

My machine is an Advent 3000XP. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated...

THANKS

Sounds like the ATI keys problem. Do you know if the machine has an ATI graphics card fitted? (Right click on the desktop, properties, settings and have a look at the "display" text).

If so you have to stop the ATI Keyboard poller service from running and make sure you don't have "sticky keys" switched on from the control panel.

The way to do this is to START -> RUN -> MSCONFIG and disable the atiptaxx and atihotkey poller under startup and services tabs.

The sticky keys are in control panel -> Accessability options

You will need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

And :welcome:

Technically it did meet the spec.

Just a quick question...not a wireless keyboard is it?

If it is then it could simply be down to the reciever losing connection with the keyboard as you are playing.

Not wireless....

Tried a PC service line. they said it cant be a hardware fault, and rather a fault with certain games, but i have installed over 20 games and it happens in all of them....

So if it is a software issue...any further ideas??

Thanks

Did your keyboard come with any software?  Just wondered if it might be worth re-installing it?

no software. Just a standard PS2 connected keyboard.

This is driving me nuts...lol

Got it a bit better by accessing the keyboard options and turning down the repeat value for keystrokes. It still jappens but only half as much.

Im case it helps the model number for the keyboard is -

uk advent 3701

Again, thanks for trying

Is there a "device manager" of any kind on your operating system?

If so does it see the correct k/board type & drivers(if any) for it?

Just a thought  :)

built a comp for my folks to surf the net and play Solitaire about a week ago, went to wally world and bought a ps2 keyboard for $10 i think the difference between the dollar is something like a 1 1/2 dollar equalls a pound, so it means its cheap as dirt. works and the keys don't stick.

Heres a little thing worth trying, related to the damn sticky keys :)

Even if you have them disabled then they can still activate.

If you press one of the shift keys 5 times in quick sucession a window will appear. Press 'Settings' and then select "settings" for sticky keys. From there you can switch the 'shortcut' off.
