Long MP3 file. Can I split into tracks?
« on: January 12, 2004, 12:44 »
Hi,

I have an 80 minute long mp3 file which I want to burn onto CD to play in a standard CD player. I am using Nero 5 and what I want to do is split the file into separate tracks at 5 minute intervals, but with no audible gap between tracks. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks in advance
Phil

Can you clarify this a little for me Phil please ?
Is this just one song that lasts for 80 mins as an mp 3 or is it one file that contains lots of tracks ?
An audio cd made from that would take 8 to 10 cds when uncompressed  :o
There is an option in Nero to have no gap between tracks if you tick it.
There is a free program available here that will split files :

http://www.dynu.com/dynusplit.asp

I dont know if you could use that to do as you want, as its intended to split files for e mailing or putting onto floppies then re joining them later  ???

Hi Phil, I think you can just drop the MP3 file onto a new Audio CD layout in Nero. This will create it as a track. If you then right click it you can choose the Nero Wave Editor and crop the bits you need out of the track. Then rename the track to the correct track name.

Repeat the process for all the tracks in the MP3.

It's not pretty, but I'm sure it'll work :)

Let us know how you get on, Phil.  I would particularly be interested, as I have not managed to create a CD from MP3s without an audible gap between the tracks.

I use a prog called "cool edit" to break the long mp3 into it's individual tracks. You can then burn them as you like.

PM me for more details.

That ok admin?

The wave editor (think it's actually called something else in my version of Nero) can indeed be used for splitting the file into separate tracks. It's very simple - just click at the point in time you want the break, and hit the split button.

Thanks for that. There is however a very small gap between tracks, but this is better than having to hold the fast forward button down for an eternity to get to the different tracks.

I've not tried using cool edit as suggested by Nutter yet, but will report back when I get round to it.

Phil

Hi phil,
Cool edit will generate just what you need & more!. If you need to edit/create music, or music files regularly for any reason it really is the biz,(I think so). The kids match the volume of different tracks on ours before they burn them, & create rap, with a "c" on it ;D
It's a fairly professional tool (that I can't use at all well!).
I'll send you a personal message, That ok admid?
