That poem must be seriously old Butterfly.  ;D ChorleyDave will have to remind me when we were last at war with France.

Hiya Clive,

Yip if I remember correctly around 1812-17......not entirely sure of the year but it's yonks ago.  I seem to remember something about the Luddites being taught in History class at school but that was yonks ago too and you know what kids are like in History Class :naughty:

Hi Guys,

:tony:I just can't take any more! :'(  I bought a powered USB hub (Belkin Hi Speed USB 2.0 4-port Hub £25 from Argos) I uninstalled the printer software and rebooted........ I connected the hub....fine....I plugged in printer, windows detected it..put CD in and installed the printer software....a little window came up from printer software asking me what type of cartridge the printer was using......I didn't get a chance to click anything, my 'puter froze again :brick:

What am I doing wrong???

The modem should be ok left in the pc port Butterfly.
Usually with USB devices they like the software installing before the hardware.
I would disconnect the all in one thing and unistall the software then reinstall the software from the cd and it will probably ask you to connect the device once its installed the software  :)

You think this is going to be okay the way I've done it? or am I gonna blow myself and 'puter up? :o

Should be no problems at all.

Though if you do smell smoke.......... :)

(Actually had that happen once when someone put the USB headers onto the motherboard the wrong way....this caused the 5V to connect directly to ground and strange blue smoke started coming from the computer)
hey promised the earth! Then delivered mud.
Technically it did meet the spec.

If it aint broke dont fix it  ;)
It does sound as if you are seriously underpowered on your pc though.
Have you got some details/specifications of your pc ?
If you are unsure there is a free program, Belarc Advisor, that you can download from here :

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

You could install that and post some screenshots to let us know what you are running :doggie:

Ummm....just checked Argos webite and it wouldn't be this hub would it?
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=1751&productId=89895

Can you just confirm it's got a separate power supply and doesn't get it's power from the USB bus (as thats the problem you've got with the printer and modem).

Can do that or if you know how to do a screen shot of the various bits of info then you could attach them here.
Can never have too much information Butterfly, number and type of IDE drives etc, type of cpu and make and model of motherboard.
Any external devices attached, amount and type of RAM (memory) etc  :)

Just a thought Butterfly, please dont think that I assume that you are a blonde  ;)
You have got the power switched on to the usb hub have you ?
As they will still work on some devices with the power off, as we are suspecting that power is the problem then it would need to be plugged in and switched on to get the benefits  :)
