Hi Chris 8)
What OS are you using, I take a lot of digital pics and havn't downloaded no software from the Camera manufactures, I let XP do all the work on my pics ;)
Just try deleting the software and upload the pics from the camera using USB or Flash card to see what happens.

Seems to indicate that all Nikon cameras these days should be supported natively by XP.
Sound like your XP is borked.
Q. Are you trying to connect the camera into the same USB port the webcam normally connects to? If so it might simply be that the webcam software is getting in the way.

yeah the pc only has 2 usb ports....
i have had a few virus' before and had to delete infected files...i am wondering whether that might be the reason for my problems...

Could be worth you doing a System File Check
Start->Run->SFC
As per http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310747 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310747)

Hi chrismcnicholas :welcome:
Are you plugging the camera directly into the PCs USB port (rather than via a hub)? I have a Casio digital camera that works perfectly as long as the cable isn't plugged into my hub ???
Just a thought :)

Just to second what Hook said, I have a Kodak digital camera, and I don't use the bundled software either. Windows XP takes care of everything nicely. I just plug the camera into a USB and away it goes. :D
