Title: MSN Messenger probs
Post by: PhilTheFish on February 26, 2004, 20:48
Hi everybody,

Just downloaded and installed the latest version of MSN messenger 6.1. Trouble is, even though it told me to close the existing messenger program before install, it was running in the background. Now when I start up and connect to internet the latest version of messenger opens and signs me in, but after a couple of minutes I get a message saying 'you have been signed out because you are signed in on a different computer'. It looks like ther's a problem with the old and new programs trying to run at the same time.

Anyone got any ideas for rectification??

Cheers
Phil

I would uninstall both old and new versions, and start again, Phil.   :)

I won't be upgrading for some time.   It's a bit of a pain having to dismiss the alert every couple of weeks, but  at least Version 6 works.

windows messenger starts as default as a service I believe. If you were using this messenger before, it may still be trying to log you in...

open windows messenger and make sure you turn off automatic sign in on that.

You could go into Norton and try the Configure New Users button.  It's under Options (see below).  Or you could disable MSN Messenger scanning.   :(
