Title: memory problem

I tried to install CM 99-00 and CM 00-01 onto my new PC (the one i'm using now) which has a 160GB hard disk, with about 15GB used, and the rest free.

But having installed the games, once i tried to start a new game, i got this message:

"There is not enough system memory available to create the new game."

That makes no sense, as according to the 'properties' of my C drive, i have about 140 odd GB of free space.

Any ideas? By the way, i can run CM4 and CM 03-04 on the same PC fine, and they run pretty fast.

Have you got the full drive as one partition or have you split it into a smaller one for you OS and the rest for storage ?
If you have split it then if you can move the folder where it saves the games to onto the bigger partition that should sort it  :)

I just re read your post and you say that you have 140 gig spare on C so I guess its all in one partition after all  ???

Which OS are you using ?

Have you tried increasing the amount of Virtual Memory available ?
If you are unsure where it is then go to System/Properties/Advanced/Performance, click on Settings then Advanced and the Virtual Memory is at the bottom  :)

I had checked that, Iam on an Initial of 768mb and a max of 1536, should I increase these?

I would have thought that was ok BK.
Wont harm to try it though as you can always go back if it causes other problems.
I read somewhere that it should be around 3 x your actual memory.
What are the specs of your PC ?
Is it within the minimum requirements for the games that you want to run ?
Is the graphics card up to it ?

No, the pc specs are waaay above the min requirements for the game, and the changing of virtual mem had no effect either, I wonder would it have anything to do with the fact the games were out before XP came along as the newer versions work fine?

It is a P4 2.8    1024mb memory, 160 gbs hard drive, 128mb Graph card.

It could be as some arent compatable.
I am not much of a gamer unfortunately.
Have you tried going into the properties of the games and changing the settings to run in 98 compatability mode or whatever the option is  ???

System memory.....

relating to the memory modules/sticks and not the hard drive right?

SOMETHING seems to be taking up all your memory. How much memory do you have?

Hit WINDOWS FLAG KEY + PAUSE/BREAK together to bring up properties box. The memory total will be displayed on the first page.

Now press CTRL-ALT-DEL and see how much memory is free ---> CLICK THE PERFORMANCE tab.

There is all sorts of memory info here, check what is being used and what is free.


you may have some spyware on there or something like that.

Thanks to all for the help, but the warning message only comes up for those two games, everything else I run is fine.

Try the 98 compatability mode BK and see if that sorts it  :)

If you have a shortcut to it or the exe itself, right click on it and select properties.
Theres a tab for Compatability.
Tick the run in comapatability box and select from the drop down menu which one you want, probably 98 and ME will be your best bet, then apply   :)
