which windows would you all rate the best ???
-
3.1 without any shadow of a doubt!!
-
why ????

Because it was very small compared to today's bloatware and much simpler to understand. Of course it couldn't handle a lot of the applications of a modern computer but I don't use many of the new applications anyway. Bring back my old friend Ami Pro (beats Word hands down, Freelance (pre- Powerpoint presentation package) and Lotus (pre-Excel spreadsheet) Halcyon days of sheer simplicity. ;)

I use XP Home, but it's mostly a case of personal preference. Just avoid ME. ;)

Although I have copies of Windows 2000 and ME, until I go over to Linux I prefer to stick with 98SE. Microsoft products are notoriously insecure, not to mention buggy, and I work on the theory that the smaller and simpler the program, the less there is to patch.
One thing, white fly, if you have asked this question to help you make a decision (and, at the end of the day, that's what we are all here for) DO NOT go for ME. A typical install of ME is twice the size of a 98 install and has absolutely no benefits. It is simply overloaded with useless gimmicks, or as Clive describes them - "bloatware". :)

It looks like it will always end up getting bigger... I can't imagine the size of Windows 2010!
Linux will eventually head the same way I suspect - but because its open source, there will be less bugs over all. Plus its built on a much better architecture...
I vote XP because of its pliability - home or secure office use - acts like 2000 in the office, but 2000 couldn't do everything 98SE could do at home...
3.1 was nice. Dosshell was handy there too...
Blimey, I remember having to park my hard disks!

:mg: I'd forgotten about that Ket :o
Shiptrak I think was the DOS command I had to type on my trusty old Tandy 3000  It was a superduper Intel 80286 with a whole 2MB of RAM and a 20MB hard drive :o :o

Several years ago, I gave a young girl I know an old PC of mine, that had been in a cupboard at my mum's collecting dust. It was a 386, 12" Monitor, 80MB Hard Drive, 4MB RAM, 2-speed CD ROM, Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and Microsoft Works version 3. I gave it to her because I feel sorry for her, as she is very bright but has a crappy home life, due to parents who are a waste of space, to put it mildly.
She is now a student at the college I am currently working at and, believe it or not, she still uses it for her assignments. :)

Awww thats nice dave! :)
I use ME and yes it does have alot of problems but no more than I had with 98 - so it must be just the user :o >:( :-\

It's gotta be XP Pro for me... 8)
How ever big and fat it gets it still performs best ::) ;) :P

personally i use 98 because my pcs aren't decent enough for xp. But due to my lazy nature, i would probably choose xp because it auto configs most of the drivers. Thats the main reason i like xp, the other reason is the creative part of my personality enjoys the look and feel.
Now people say 98se is more hands on, but i just don't see it. Theres nothing i haven't been able to do in xp that i do in 98 so i think thats a pointless excuse. And probably the best pro about xp compaired to 98 is that ive only experianced the blue screen twice using xp compared to the countless times using 98.

i used to think that there was no advantage in havent xp over 98se but ive grown too like xp pro and now i could not live without it ;D
