Hiya Dom, welcome to the zoo!

The chances are, that you've been treated to a dose of unwanted software which may be using your box as a spam relay, or if not that, then something that might perhaps be busy replicating copies of itself to anyone you've ever met.

In addition to the usual virus precautions, I urge you to also install a Scumware Blocker such as SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html).  It's FREE and just might help you to stay alive that little bit longer!

Oh...  and get those Service Packs like...  yesterday.  Ok!   ;)

You could try Hijack This, theres a few threads with details about it in this section.
That lists all the running processes and you can copy and paste the results here and someone will tell you if theres something iffy running that the spyware removal progs have missed  :)

Just saw the last post you put as I was replying.
Its unlikely to be any nasty things on your pc then  ???
Has your ISP had any problems recently, how are you connected to the net ?

I am not a gamer so havent really any experience of your problem Dom, I have had a look around and everything seems to point to either something in your own network/modem/router settings or a server being down on your normal route.
Maybe your friend on your ISP is connecting on a different route or it may be a local problem nearer to you  ???
do you get the high pings on just the one game or on others too ?
If its on others then it sounds like your settings.
One thing I did see was trying altering your acceleration in graphics and sounds, that may have changed when you reinstalled after your format  ???

Have you checked for the MS Blaster Worm (http://tinyurl.com/jozm)? If you haven't got the service packs, chances are you haven't got the patch for it.  It will infect unpatched machines within 2 seconds (literally) of going online, so you may well have caught it since formatting.  Just a thought.   :)

If you check your Task Manager and find 'msblast.exe' running, you'll need a removal tool, and there just happens to be one here (http://tinyurl.com/jqdf).  Best to run it in Safe Mode, with System Restore temporarily deactived.  ;)

Sorry Dom, as I said I am not a gamer, you need to wait for an online gamer or ask some of the ones you play them with, sorry  :(
