Title: System shutdown.
Post by: Dominic on April 17, 2004, 17:19
Recently i bought a new HS + fan for pc, due to the old one wearing out and the pc was getting rather hot. But here's the problem with my new one, if i close my case and run a say high preformance game, my pc will shut of, but if i leave the side of the case of, it will run 24/7 no probs. What im asking is there some sort of shutoff command or w/e thats causing this to do that ?

It certainly sounds like an overheating issue.  The PC will shut down to protect the CPU if it starts to get too hot.  Possibly the new heatsink hasn't bonded fully with the CPU?  Did you use thermal paste, or did it come with a thermal pad?  Might be worth seeing if you can reseat it.  Just a thought.

I don't think it's related to overheating, when i switch pc back on after it shuts down (with case on) the bios read the system temp at roughly 20-25 and cpu 35-40.
