It's not what you might call an obvious sign, but spyware can manifest itself in strange ways. Have you done comprehensive spyware scans, Hook? Perhaps post a Hijack This (http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/) log on here? Someone might spot something. Otherwise, I wonder if there might be a foreign object of some desription in one of your drives, which is making it think a disc has been inserted?
I'll get me coat... ;D

Yes Simon I have an old HJ log that is clean and have compared it with that..so thats ok, I have recently installed a new DVD Rom (Aopen x 16) I wonder if thats the problem >:(

Seems a bit of a coincidence. :-\ Does the light on the drive flash when the mouse changes?
-
No lights etc.. >:(

Dunno then. ??? Perhaps it runs some sort of self diagnostic check every so often? Can't think of anything else.

No ideas Hooky, but I just thought I would share this with you. I bought Packard Bell optical mouse. And it has always felt the urge to quickly visit the bottom of the screen on the odd occasion. Then it is normal again in a split second. As I run three monitors, with the taskbar on the left handside monitor, it just does a quick "exit stage left". I have never found what is causing it, but itis no sweat.

I have deleted the new DvD rom drive and it seems that is the cause of the offending flashing cursor with the CD icon flashing. cause it aint doing it now >:( now what, any ideas chaps and chappesses ;D

Will the retailer swap it for another make of drive?

Well it hasnt happened again since I reinstalled it :o
