Title: Pop up Problems
Post by: steved on May 10, 2004, 00:15
Hi all, This is the first time I have used his forum and hopefully someone out there can help me.
I seem to have loaded some sort of adware on my PC at some point.. what it does is it minimizes whatever I am doing and pops up an advert using internet explorer.
I have installed panicwares free version of spybot search and destroy which found some adware software and I deleted it all but it didn?t stop this. I also installed their popup stopper which stops the popup window opening but not from it minimizing whatever I am doing which most of the time is playing online games, and having Medal of Honor minimize back to your desktop every ten minuets during a game is driving me mad!! ???

I would be most grateful of any advice

Thanks in advance Steve

Hi Steve and :welcome:

I find Adaware to be very good, a lot of the people on here use that and Spybot as one often finds something that the other misses  :)

Its available free from :

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Another program to try if that doesnt work is "Hijack This", I will see if I can find a link for you for that if adaware doesnt sort it for you  :)

Also its sometimes better to run a scan in safe mode with the ssytem restore turned off, if you are using XP or ME as stuff can lurk in the system restore and reactivate itself  :(
