I have just got a pc from a friend who had windows me on it in japenese and i want to put windows 98 on it how do i go about it , do i need a boot disk
-
Yes just use a 98 boot disk, format and partition your drive if partitions are required.
I you dont want any partitions other than the main one just type
Format C: /S at the A: prompt after using a boot disk.
If you havent got a boot disk and cant make one from your japanese version of ME you can get one from :
www.bootdisk.com

Thanks sandra... do i use the bootdisk first or the win 98 cd first... this is my 1st time putting on a op

Use the boot disc first to format, and (if required) partition the drive, then reboot with the 98 CD in the drive, and follow the steps. I think that's correct, it's a long time since I've loaded 98 onto a machine.

Depending on the version (USE SECOND EDITION!!):
You can boot with the CD.
It should give you a few options (ie prompt with CD support etc).
So you shouldn't need a boot disk at all
if memory serves well enough.
Just make sure that the BIOS has your 1st boot device as CD.
