Helloooo Pals 8)
For the second time running on windows updates, the little icon shows on the task bar asking if I want to update a new windows update, I click yes and nothing happens.
I have clicked on the Auto updates and its clicked ok, so for the second time running I have had to manually upload the updates.
I was wondering if any body else has had this problem or if some of you good people could point me in the right direction on how to fix this problem.

It happens to me too. Sometimes, even though it seems to be doing nothing, it is actually downloading, and then you get the little icon again in a few minutes asking to install, but sometimes it just does nothing. It must depend on whether it can connect to the Windows Updates server, I guess.

Yes, sounds right simon.
When I'm doing a fresh install these days, it looks like there is about 200megs of downloads. That will take a long time! But it will happen. I believe it is managed, so it should continue from where it left off if you restart.

But? I can leave it 24 hrs and it starts all over again.... do you want to down load the latest updates... YES please Bill.. and nothing ::)
I must have a curupt file somewhere :-[

Rather than wait for it to download itself, why not use Windows Update and force it to download? :)

Thanks for the replys lads :)
Adept that is the only way I can update at the moment, I have found a thread on google where it says if I rename Catroot2 to catroot2old and reeboot that should cure my problem ??? heck if I know.
Anyway once again thanks for the inputs so to speak ;D

This is an extremely long shot in the dark, but what Firewall have you got, Hook? Norton Firewall has been doing some funny (peculiar) things since one of the Live Updates was a bit iffy, but it's mainly affected ME machines. I did, however, find on mine (XP), that I couldn't access one of the Admin sections on the forum, and after a lot of head scratching, it turned out to be NF that was causing the trouble. I have now switched to Sygate, and have no problems, with an added bonus that my Internet browsing speed has significantly improved.

Simon, I have ZA firewall with XP as well, but I have had them for eons :D and never had a problem before until the last 2 critical updates.
But I wont know now until the next critical set of updates.

Just to add ......
I have ME (yes still ::) ) And I had zone alarm, but it was really acting up, and wasn't working right, I did a check and it wasn't protecting me. God knows how long thats been going on for.
Anyway I couldn't find out what was wrong. So I've installed Mcafee and that is working fine. (touchwood and whistle) :-*

Ok ZA is History, Sygate now installed and must be coincidence that its running quicker ;D
Only time will tell when the updates start ;) thanks Simon 8)

ZA is rather strange sometimes... it wont allow MSN audio on my PC.
Its possible that the automatic updates are downloading sections at a time. Once its downloaded 100megs worth, and a reboot has occurred (so its installed), there may be further updates (like SP2) to get, so it may ask you to download again. In fact, I would suggest it WILL ask.
