Title: boot.ini problem
Post by: dingo on June 28, 2004, 12:20
Hi guys/girls

I have a problem with my laptop that is running Windows XP. When I start it up, a black screen appears that says "invalid boot.ini file" and then it either continues to start up Windows or occassonally it will get stuck on that screen and I have to restart.
I have tried to re-install Windows but it again comes up with a problem related to this file during the install and won't let me continue.
Please give me some tips on how to correct this problem.

Kind Regards and thanks in advance
Dingo

Dingo hi   :)

Just a stab in the dark until one of the techies surface?

On XP you can do a system restore to a last known good configeration, If I was doing that to me? that would be the 1st thing I try.

Thanks for the reply Hookstar.
I don't have System Restore enabled so I can't do that.

That should sort ya.

Did you install Windows twice? Dual booting with another O/S or perhaps installed Windows XP into another directory?
