I hope I've posted this in the right place :).
Whenever I try to use Real Player on the internet, I get a message saying "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it." How can I sort this out?

Hi Gill, I cant think what would be causing that but Real Player does seem to have/cause a lot of problems.
I would recommend that you uninstall it and install Real Alternative instead from here :

I have been using it for a couple of months now and its played the rm files and streamed radio from the BBC sites with no problems :)

Thanks, Sandra, that's definitely made progress :).
I'm still not there yet, though. The Real Alternative can access the files but when I play them there's no sound. I've re-booted the machine and checked the volume and mute controls but there's still no sound. Any further thoughts?

Yes, they're coming through loud and clear.

Open Windows Media Player Classic, go to View then Options.
Under Format make sure that Real Audio File, Real Media File and Real Script File are ticked.
Thats how mines set :)

When I'm online there's still nothing there, I'm afraid. :(
