Hi folks ;D only me 8)
Today finaly got BB, everything seems fine apart from not being able to get my Hotmail account to work, this account is not my main mail? as I use this one for signing in to junk sites etc??
I have checked all the settings, it worked before I upgraded to BB........just cant see anything wrong ..oh by the way its the same for Mrs Hook and the young hookstars.
Cheers for any info.

The only mail setting you should need to change for existing mail accounts, is the SMTP server, for outgoing mail. Do you download your Hotmail mail with Outlook / OE, Hook, or do you use Hotmail.com? I suppose it might be possible that your new ISP won't allow you to download Hotmail through it's servers, but I would have thought unlikely. :-\

Simon, this is the error report I keep getting?
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12019, Error Number: 0x80004005
have tried Googling but .. ???

Try this, Hook >> (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apax34.dsl.pipex.com%2Fsmileys%2Fclickme.gif&hash=ca60c5f5683a584386d5d9e833bcf167fd9c040f) (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q259/1/33.ASP&NoWebContent=1)
CAUSE:- Your local area network (LAN) or Internet service provider (ISP) proxy server or firewall does not recognize Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) extensions. This prevents Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) e-mail messages from working correctly.

I think that only works for OE5 Simon :-\ mine is OE6
-
Hmm... never noticed that. ::) Have you tried deleting the Hotmail account in OE, and setting it up again? Other than that, I think you'll have to wait for someome more technical to come along. It does say in that article, that it could be something to do with your ISP.

This isn't some sort of firewall problem?
-
It was ok before I went on BB..could it be my Router?
-
Assuming the router has a firewall, but not knowing how router firewalls work, I'm guessing, but can you remove the Hotmail entry from the firewall Applications List, like in a software firewall? Then would it ask for permission next time? Hotmail is a different protocol to POP3, as you'll know, so may need separate permission through your router firewall. As I said, I'm only guessing.
-
The router will definitley have a firewall so I think that needs adjusting. Not quite sure how you go about it though.
-
I should think that Hotmail probably uses different ports to Pop3 accounts (they use 110 and 25 for pop3 and smtp).
Unfortunately I dont know which ports Hotmail mail uses but if you can find which it uses then just open them in your router and it should work fine :)
-
How would I find that out Sandra ?? been googling the best part of 90 mins looking for a solution :-\
-
I looked too before I posted Hooky, without any success so far :(
I will have another look later to see if I can find it for you :)
-
Ok cheers Sandra :D
-
Well what do you know?? Hotmail is all up and running again now :-\......I dont know sometimes computers baffle me ???

Forgot to mention this..
Hoepfully it will help someone with a netgear router.
Sir,
This sounds like it may be an MTU issue. Log in to the router configuration interface, and go to the WAN Setup menu. Change your MTU size to 1350, and then click Apply. This should solve the problems you're seeing.
If this doesn't resolve your issue, or if you do have any further questions or issues regarding your Netgear hardware, please reply using the system, or if you would prefer call voice support on 0870 112 1206, which is staffed 24/7.
Best regards,
