I've just had my pc reloaded. 2 of the games I used to play now get this message up so I can't install them:-[
the message is 16 bit windows subsystem
and it tells me that the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.
I really hope someone can help me. ???

Hi juedaz95 and :welcome:
Is it the same OS that you used to run them on before ?
If its a different one which OS were you using and which are you using now ?
-
thanks for the welcome.i was and still am running windows xp home edition.

Can you open the directory where its installed to and right click on the games exe file, select properties and then change it to 95 or 98 compatibility mode ???

Hi and :welcome: to Pc-pals juedaz95.
What games is it you're trying to load?
There are possibly 2 things that could be wrong.
Either you have files still on HD belonging to the first installation. I would do a search and delete anything pertaining to the game. Uninstall game and re-install and see if that works.
Set your color to 16bit and see if that makes a difference.
Come back and tell us how you get on.
PS Also go to website of game and see if there are any patches needed to download.

I've tried the compatibility mode but that doesn't help. then I tried changing the colour to 16 bit but that didn't work either.the game is alone in the dark {4?} the new nightmare and it used to work before I got my pc reloaded.I've never even heard of a 'subsystem'. ???

Ha!
God, I hate that error! The problem is with the "autoexec.nt" file. It (somehow) disappears sometimes...
Try and d/l the file. Just search for it in google or something. Install/copy it to the "C:\Windows\system32" directory. If you can't find it I might be able to send it to you somehow.
Good luck! ;D
