Well i still like it, just a wee problem in that it seems to have trouble finding any plugins when they are needed. It just says plugin not available infact to date it has only succesfully found and installed one. Is this maybe because i have the free version :P
Also i cant seem to find how to reinstate IE as the default browser (which i may need to do briefly just to view the items that firefox cant display)
EDIT just got the IEview extension which solves my problem.
i'd still like to know how to reinstate IE as default just so i know ::)

A techie will guide you better. But, maybe it'll work if you go to "Internet Options" and open the Tab "Programs". Then you check the last option in that window:
"Check if Internet Explorer is my default Navigator".
-
Thanks tried that already joudi ;) All it does is check which is the default, it doesnt actually alter the setting.
-
I think that if you load up IE6 and click on Tools/Internet Options/Programs and reset web settings to original IE6 defaults that should do the trick.
-
I see a possibility, (but not sure it'll work though):
Control Panel > Add & remove programs > (and then look on the left-side, out of the windows' center), there's the last (fourth) option: "Setting the default programs" > Personalise. You can activate it if it's not.
Hope it works.

Thanks guys ;)

I'm interested to know the solution (answer).
I'm still waiting (espicially) Simon to tell us what does he do in that case. ::)
-
You will have to wait until Monday for Simon's reply Joudi. He's away on holiday for a few days. ;D

I think if Mozilla is set to your default browser, then when you open IE it will ask if you want to set IE as your default.
I think there is a check-box on the window to never show the message again tho.
Edit: Ah, I was just reading the other posts and saw joudi's. You already suggested what I was going to say as my other solution... ;) ;D

David, I had no problems downloading plugins, but I'm using the normal Mozilla Browser instead of Firefox. But there should be no probs with that either http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/plugins.jsp (http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/plugins.jsp)
I have to use both IE6 and Mozilla jointly as my "Trading Platform" is configured for IE6 only. So I have an IE6 shortcut icon on my toolbar, which is locked to always open on the Trading Platform site. As I dont use it for normal web browsing, I changed the Blue "E" Icon for something else. Plus I have a Mozilla shortcut icon also on my toolbar, as its my default browser, and with the "view page in IE" plugin that covers all options.

Which plug ins are you looking for, Dave? Some of the Firefox ones are not compatible with Mozilla, and vice-versa. I can't remember offhand whether you are using Moz or FF, but there is a list of all the available Mozilla plugins at the Extension Room (http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/), with links to ones for Firefox too.
As for making IE your default, I think that's been covered above, but if you use the IE View plugin, them you should find no need to make IE your default browser again.
-
I'm using firefox Simon . Since i've discovered the IEVIEW extension its not an issue any more, as you say ;)
-
OK Dave, but you still might like to check out the Firefox link in the Extension Room, as there are some incredibly useful toys in there. ;)
-
I will do ;D
Is there a big difference between the firefox and mozilla flavours ??

Mozilla tastes much better on pizzas Dave ;D ;D ;D

Don't listen to her, Dave, she's just jealous because she's still using an inferior browser. :P ;D
I'm not quite sure what your question referred to, but if you're talking about Plugins and Extensions, I think you have to get thr right one, as some of those for Mozilla are not compatible with Firefox, and vice-versa. If you're talking generally, there's not a lot of difference between the two browsers, but the Mozilla Suite has a built in e-mail client and HTML editor, and has more Extensions available, I think.

Oh another of my favorite plugins Dave http://backup.jasnapaka.com/ (http://backup.jasnapaka.com/) Mozbackup
It does as it says, backs up all your moz settings. If I reinstall C:Drive from a saved image, my saved email and bookmarks etc will only be as upto date as the date of the saved image. But if I run this little prog prior to reimaging C:Drive, and save the backup file as per the date, to a partition other than C:Drive. After reimaging I just run the prog again, but this time click "restore" instead of "backup" and all my emails etc are bang up to date.
I back up weekly as a rule, you never know when things may go tits up with PC's
:)
-
Funnily enough, I tried that back up tool some time ago, and couldn't get it to work, so have done it manually ever since. :-\
-
It worked OK for me Simon, but then I noticed this week on attempting a restore, it did not. It did not work with the latest version of Mozilla, so I downloaded the lates version of Mozbackup, and its fine.
Like you say Simon, you can do it manually, by just copying the Mozzila folder in "Application Data" But as that is a hidden file some peeps may prefer to just hit a Mozbackup icon on their desktop.
-
Tony, I don't think you can restore a back up from one version of Moz, to a newer version, which is, thinking about it, what I was trying to do. It's always useful to do a complete manual back up of your Profile, as I think there are bits that the back up utility doesn't save, i.e. the Prefs file. :)
-
I tried that plugin site and its great. My original problem was that i didnt always know what the plugin actually was. I would access a particular site and be told that a plugin needed to be downloaded then the plugin finder service would usually fail to locate it ::)
anyhow i'm more than happy with firefox + occasional ieview ;)
ps quit takin' the pizza sandra :-*

:welldone: Dave! Glad you found it useful. :D
