Title: XP Pro Multiple User Accounts
Post by: Serenity on November 20, 2004, 18:17
Hi Guys  :)  I need some advice  :-\

I am running XP Pro and have 2 accounts set up, Mine (administrator) and a Family setting.  I installed a game on MY settings but I cannot get it to run from the family settings  :-\  I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it on the family settings and its saying access denied!  can anyone give me advice on how they can play this game on their settings?  thanks  :)

Right Sen,

I only have one user account so I cannot relate to your problem...But keep reading ::) For ages I actually just used the Administrator account, untill I read a section in the help files, that said doing so left the PC open to attack. So I made myself an account and gave myself Admin privliges. But since then, I was ubable to delete certain files attributed to the Drive Image program.

Anyway to make a short story longer ;D

I found a fix via the Drive Image online help files see  LINK (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/powerquest.nsf/0b685d0feb12bb8988256e970047cea7/8f0e0f5cbbd1cff388256e75007c8ef9?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=2&Src=sg#_Section2)
It may solve your problem, in that you assign priviliges to the "Family" account regarding the program your having trouble with.....anyway worth a try I figure.....Nothing ventured ....She who dares wins .... Any port in a storm....Don't just stand there, pass me that straw ::) { made the last one up}  ;D

Bev, you might need to temporarily grant Admin status to the Family account to install the game, then remove Admin access from the Family account again.

To grant / remove Admin access, I think you have to go into Control Panel > User Accounts > Change Account.

Well, all sorted now  :thumb:  Thanks so much for your advice guys  :-* I granted temp Administer rights to my family setting and re-installed the game (Half Life) and its working perfectly and have subsequently returned administrator status to myself.
