Title: Surround sound problem

Hi all  :waving:
I've just brought a goodmans DVD player plus surround sound but the sound doesnt work. The sound still comes through the TV speakers.
I've connected it exactly as shown in the manual for a Video and DVD player but not having any joy. The speakers all work when you put them on test and you get the white noise going round the speakers in order so they must work.
Anyone have any ideas  ???

Are you feeding the sound output of your tv through an amp ?
I have to mute my internal tv speakers in the tv menu to get the output to go to my amp  ???

Are you using the digital out on the DVD player?  Sometimes this needs to be switched on in the player options menus.  Other things to check:-

Is the disc you're playing DTS, and is the system DTS compatible?

Sounds stupid, but have you set the amp to DVD?

There must be a simple solution, and it's probably one of the settings, Graham.  Suggest you RTFM again, and perhaps you'll see something you missed before.   ;)

Check the set up menu of the DVD player. Check the audio section and see if digital output is not downmixed to PCM or such like.

Does sound as though the problem lies in the setup of the player.
