Is there any versions of XP that doesn't come with built in firewall?
My friend who has XP has been getting lots of adware installed on her pc and I was checking and couldn't find xp firewall anywhere on her system.
I ran ad-aware and found 96 entries some of which were rated High.

The XP firewall was only introduced in the sp2 update lona and wasn't on before that.

I think that XP has always had a firewall but it was turned OFF by default. SP2 changed it to always ON. I'm not sure how good the firewall is though Lona. :?

Oh I think I just repeated what Cammy said! :D "Pieces of eight Pieces of eight" :peepsofa:

Best thing is to tell her to get SP2, or a third party firewall, such as Sygate, or Zone Alarm. Non-SP2 Windows did have a firewall, but it only monitored incoming traffic, and as has already been said, was not enabled by default.

get zone alarm or pay for norton... both excellent products.. better still ditch windows (man fighting a cause here! but using windose at the moment, argh!)

Spyware blaster is also useful to stop some spyware getting on the PC's
